Our entry into the SWBBA area finals was really special this year as we had five youngsters from our Academy Brass playing with Torbay Brass Band. They all did really well and we are very proud of them, as we are of those who are following in their foot steps!
Well, we got to play in the brass band area contest in Torquay. As expected we came last but at least we turned up and gave it a shot. The real positives from all the hard work were watching five of our Academy Brass – all under 12 years – taking their place on stage with us. Also, there were some favourable comments about our efforts to get to the contest and take part. What we need now are more players to join us so we can go to other contests as the youngsters have already got the bug!
Despite repeated adverts through the door, on our Facebook page (over 2500 views), Twitter and our website, we are still short of some players. We have had four new players join since the beginning of the year, however, we could do with front row cornets and trombones to fill our ranks. Other players are welcome to get in touch, unlike some bands who are able to turn players away due to having a full complement and no instruments, we like to talk and see what you can bring to our family. Well after the busy Christmas period we will shortly be restarting our rehearsals. As we start back we are looking for players to come and join our friendly band. We work hard but we also have fun. Our Academy group is progressing well but we really do need players who can join the main band now. For more information visit our vacancies page on this site!
